                         SOME THOUGHTS ON TODAY’S GOSPEL

"The motley band of the twelve with Peter as leader would guide the future community of Jesus. They believed that Jesus was the Son of God, and later they would die for that. Our community today is somewhat similar - the motley group who are saintly and sinful, but who with firm faith believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
Peter is praised today within the church for his belief and faith in Jesus as the Son of the living God. This faith would lead him into times of doubt, of unfaithfulness, and eventually to martyrdom. The first call in his following of Jesus was to grow in the faith that would sustain his life. May our faith do the same.

Saints Peter & Paul, Apostles

LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st READING ACTS 12:1-11

(A Miraculous Escape)

The apostles are not stopped by accusations and imprisonment. They continue their witnessing to the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Lord works with them and through them and often saves them from death. This text relates to one such incident.

                    RESPONSORIAL PSALM 34

(The Lord’s Protection)

The angel of the Lord will rescue those who fear him.

2nd READING TIMOTHY 4:6-8, 17-18

(A Merited Crown)

The apostles had to rely totally on God to guide them and grant faith to those who heard their preaching. The human weakness made God’s power more obvious.

THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW 16:13-19

(Peter the Rock)

To the Jews, a change of name meant a change of the very person and of that person’s life. Jesus changes the name of Simon to Peter, which means “rock. “He would be the human rock of firmness that would protect the word of God and would guide the whole Church.

While in the Church……

Be silent. Be thoughtful. Be reverent.  This is God's house.

Before Mass speak to God. During Mass, let God speak to you.

After Mass, speak to one another.

American Martyrs

We are in desperate need of more Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors for weekend Masses. If you are interested or know of someone who might be, please contact Tracy at the office or Mary Smith.

Our Lady of Guadalupe

The committee is accepting donations throughout the year for mass celebrations at American Martyrs. Please make check payable to American Martrys, but note on check or envelope for “Our Lady of Guadalupe.” Place checks or cash in collection basket. Any questions, please contact Hank Jentzen or Jose Guevara.

A huge THANK YOU!!!!!

To the Knights of Columbus, who donated all the profits made from our Fish Frys to American Martyrs this year. A total of $9,370 was donated to our church. This couldn't have been accomplished without all the help and support of all the volunteers who worked, cleaned up, or baked desserts.

Thank you to everyone.

A Bon Voyage party for Father Santhosh!

It is scheduled for Sunday, June 29 at the Knights of Columbus Hall from 1-3 in the afternoon. For the past 4 years, we've been blessed to have Father in our lives and we're going to miss him dearly. Everyone from both parishes is invited to wish him well and to share a favorite story or two. Also, if you have any photos of Father that you'd like to submit, please drop them in the collection basket at church, the Parish Office, or give them to any Parish Council member.
